James Piret

Dr. Piret is a Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering and the Michael Smith Laboratories at the University of British Columbia. His research focus is on process and device optimization for mammalian cell and protein biomanufacturing. His multi-disciplinary research often includes collaborative work with scientists and industry. Recognitions of his accomplishments and expertise include the top yearly Canadian Chemical Engineering RS Jane research award in 2015, and every two-year Cell Culture Engineering Award in 2012 from the Engineering Conferences International. He established and leads the operation of the PROGENITER high-throughput, flexible mammalian cell culture platform to produce antigens and antibodies at small to intermediate scales. This enables rapid, reliable, and scalable biomanufacturing of high-quality proteins to support collaborative research efforts across PROGENITER, with the intention to serve other Canadian Biomedical Research Fund hubs and beyond.
